Zach Wilson will start at quarterback vs. Lions after Mike White not cleared to play – The Denver Post

Zach Wilson is back as Gang Green’s No. 1 quarterback.

Wilson, the second-year QB who was benched after a dismal outing against the Patriots last month, will start against the Detroit Lions on Sunday after Mike White was not cleared by doctors to play.

White was roughed up in last Sunday’s loss against the Bills and ended up needing a trip to the hospital to get checked out after the game. He was cleared for practice earlier in the week, but is not healthy enough to suit up.

Robert Saleh made the announcement before practice on Friday.

“We did go 5-2 with [Wilson] at quarterback, and part of that had to do with things that don’t show up on the stat sheet,” Saleh said.

Saleh declined to say if Wilson would remain the starting quarterback for the rest of the season if he plays well against the Lions.

Saleh says Mike White is an “absolute warrior,” but at the end of the day, the team had to protect him.

Developing story, check back for details.
