Winnipeg Jets at Colorado Avalanche NHL Odds and Predictions for October 17, 2022 – The Denver Post

[ad_1]

After an expected difficult night in Calgary, the Colorado Avalanche reminded the NHL that they are still among the favorites to win the Stanley Cup, defeating the Minnesota Wild 6-3 impressively.

The Avs return home for two games, the first being against Central Division rivals, the Winnipeg Jets. Both teams will be playing three games in four nights, so the goaltending matchup will be key to making a decision on who to pick in the Jets vs. Avs matchup.

We’re going to review the story so far for the Avs and Jets to find the best betting prediction for your betting ticket today. Puck Drop is scheduled for 8:00 P.M. ET from the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado. You can catch this game on ESPN+ or NHLPP.

Winnipeg Jets Preview: Arriving in Denver for the First of Three Games in Four Nights.

The Winnipeg Jets enter Wednesday night’s matchup with the Avalanche with a 1-1-0 (W-L-OTL) record. Winnipeg started the season strong with an impressive 4-1 win over the New York Rangers, who have been spectacular to start the 2022-23 season. In their last game on October 17th, the Jets weren’t nearly as impressive in a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Connor Hellebuyck should start against the Avalanche over backup goalie David Rittich, considering he is their elite starting goaltender, and the Avs are amongst the best teams in the NHL. The Jets will be playing in Vegas tomorrow night and are playing three games in four nights, so Rittich will get at least one start, be it against the Avs, likely against the Golden Knights, or the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Nikolaj Ehlers (zero goals, three assists) and Mark Scheifele (3 goals, 0 assists) lead the Winnipeg Jets in scoring, with Kyle Connor just behind them with two points (one goal, one assist). Winnipeg will want to improve on its 12.5% power-play efficiency rate.

However, the Jets’ penalty-killing has done the job so far in 2022-23, registering an 83.3% penalty-killing efficiency.

Colorado Avalanche Preview: Returning Home and Rounding into Form.

The Colorado Avalanche enter Wednesday night’s game against the Winnipeg Jets with a 2-1-0 record. In their last outing, the Avalanche defeated the Minnesota Wild 6-3, with Mikko Rantanen and Samuel Girad scoring their first goals of the season. Alexandar Georgiev made 36 saves to get the win for the Avalanche.

As the Colorado Avalanche round into form and genuinely look like the offensive powerhouses that dominated on their way to a Stanley Cup, they have split the first three games between their new goaltending tandem. The Avs need to figure out who will get the bulk of the starts between Georgiev and Pavel Francouz.

If we make the decisions, we’re leaning towards starting Georgiev in the net over Francouz. So far in 2022-23, Georgiev has a 2-0-0 record, with a 2.15  goals against average and a .911 save percentage, while Francouz was tasked with stopping the excellent Calgary Flames in their home opener. The Avs and Francouz lost that game 5-3, giving him a 0-1-0 with 5.21 goals against average and a .815 savage percentage.

Francouz is better than those numbers suggest, but with back-to-back games against the Seattle Kraken and Vegas Golden Knights on the Avs weekend schedule, we think Georgiev should get the start against the Jets and Golden Knights while Francouz can bounce back against the Kraken.

Nathan MacKinnon leads the Avalanche in scoring with seven points (two goals, five assists), while Mikko Rantanen (one goal, five assists) and Valeri Nichushkin (four goals, two assists) both have six points for the Avs.

Notably, many of these points have come on the Avs’ spectacular power play, which is operating at 50% efficiency. The Avs Penalty killing will need to improve as they are still operating at 50%. This will improve as the season progresses but remains an early issue for the Avalanche.

Jets vs. Avalanche Odds and Betting Prediction

Online sportsbooks have the Colorado Avalanche listed as the moneyline betting favorite, listed with odds between -213 and -250. The Winnipeg Jets are the betting underdog on the moneyline, with odds ranging from +180 to +190.

As of publication for our Jets vs. Avalanche betting picks, the Winnipeg Jets (+1.5) are the betting favorite on the puck line spread, with odds between -130 and -141. The Colorado Avalanche (-1.5) are the rightful favorite on the moneyline but are the betting underdog on the puck line, listed with odds ranging from +105 to +115.

The total goals to consider for our Jets vs. Avalanche betting picks are set at 6.5 on most online sportsbooks. The over is listed with odds ranging from -110 to -120, while the under is listed with odds ranging from +100 to -110.

Our Jets vs. Avalanche Prediction

It’s still early in the 2022-23 NHL regular season, but we do have betting records to consider part of our predictions. The Colorado Avalanche are 2-1 on the moneyline, while the Winnipeg Jets are 1-1 on the moneyline in 2022-23.

The Avs are 3-0 on the over/under total goals line, while the Jets are 0-2.  As for the puck line spread, the Avalanche are 2-1 against the spread, while the Jets are 1-1 against the spread.

The Avs are the better team and should win this game. Despite the less-than-favorable odds, we’ll take the Avs to win on the moneyline.

We highly recommend checking closer to puck drop for who will be starting for the Winnipeg Jets. If Hellebuyck is in the net, we’d suggest either picking the Jets to keep it close and cover the puck line spread (+1.5).

If David Rittich is going to start for the Jets, picking the Avs to cover the puck line spread becomes a significantly more interesting bet. And one that is more likely to payout than if Hellebuyck is in net.
