Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was beaten by Rasheed Akanbi’s late strike for Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League.

Since his Man of the match winning performance at Old Trafford, Nigeria’s Francis Uzoho has enjoyed a rare consistent run in goal for Omonia Nicosia and started the encounter vs Sheriff Tiraspol.

Both teams toiled in vain for a goal until the 88th minute when the homers found the breathrough which condemns Omonia to a pointless Europa league exit.

The Cypriot side have lost all six games to sit bottom of a group that includes Real Sociedad and English Premier League giants Manchester United FC.

Omonia Nicosia have struggled for form in recent weeks, a sorry run that cost Neil Lennon his job as manager.

New manager Yannick Ferrera got off to a winning start on Monday, Francis Uzoho bagging a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Anorthorsis.

The Super Eagle was almost going off with another clean sheet before being undone by compatriot Rasheed Akanbi.

Whereas Akanbi and his Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol will drop to the UEFA Conference league, Omonia Nicosia are out of Europe.

In the other Group E fixture decided on Thursday November 3, Manchester United defeated table-toppers Real Sociedad by a lone goal.

Both teams will be in the draws for the Knock-out round of the 2022 UEFA Europa League after claiming 15 points to pick the Groups two qualification spots.
