Two teenagers were killed and two were injured in a two-vehicle crash near Castle Rock at about midnight on Friday, and a driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The four teens — two males and two females, all age 17 — were in a Honda pickup that was northbound on the Interstate 25 Frontage Road just south of Castle Rock, said Trooper Josh Lewis, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.
A 25-year-old man was driving a Toyota SUV southbound and the Toyota crossed over into the northbound lane, hitting the Honda broadside, Lewis said.
A male passenger from Castle Rock and a female passenger from Larkspur died, Lewis said. The male driver of the Honda, from Castle Rock, suffered moderate injuries and a female passenger from Castle Rock suffered serious injuries. None of the teen passengers were wearing seatbelts. All four were taken to a local hospital, where two were pronounced dead.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Ricky Avalos-Truillo of Colorado Springs, was the only person in the SUV. He was taken to a local hospital, treated and released. Avalos-Truillo was arrested on suspicion of DUI, Lewis said, and was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
An investigation is ongoing.
