The Next Mercedes-AMG GLC Shows its Panamericana Grille

The second generation Mercedes GLC lineup will soon welcome high-performance Mercedes-AMG GLC variants that will be powered purely by electrified engines. According to an Autocar report from May 2022, the next-gen Mercedes GLC 43 and Mercedes GLC 63 are scheduled to arrive in 2023.

Design & Interior

As Mercedes-Benz’s next-gen SUV, the 2023 GLC 63 is set to have a sharper design, as previewed in this rendering by TopElectricSUV. The new model exudes more aggression with an AMG Panamericana radiator grille in gloss black and an A-shaped lower grille. Large outer air inlets give the car a look of power and sophistication. Multi-spoke alloy wheels with red calipers and black mirrors complete the high-performance aesthetic of this vehicle. The other differentiating exterior elements are AMG badges, lower ride height, upgraded braking system, and aero-enhanced bumpers.

Inside, expect AMG seats with a different upholstery design and seat covers in black ARTICO artificial leather/MICROCUT microfiber sporting red contrasting stitching and seat belts finished in red for a sporty touch. Also on the menu should be AMG Performance steering wheel, AMG mats, AMG sports pedals, and illuminated door sill featuring the AMG lettering.

Features

The second-generation GLC AMG variants should come packed with top-of-the-line features, including rear-axle steering, AMG Performance 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission with wet start-off clutch, the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive dampers, and an AMG Exhaust system. These high-end features should provide a dynamic driving experience, quite different from the character of the standard GLC.

2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 & 2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Performance

The range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 is set to receive a significant power boost in the form of a new M139 2.0-liter engine with plug-in hybrid technology. This would give the car three different electrical assistance systems: an electrified turbocharger, an ISG, and a traction motor. The most powerful version of the GLC could arrive as early as summer 2023, with over 500 hp on tap. Meanwhile, the standard next-gen Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 would be a mild-hybrid, where an ISG will be assisting the 2.0-liter gasoline engine. In the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan that was revealed in 2022, the same powertrain develops 408 hp, with an additional 10 kW (14 hp) available from the RSG in certain situations, and 500 Nm of torque. Expect similar outputs in the SUV.

Price and Release Date

Expect the AMG variants of the new GLC to launch next year in Europe, with prices starting around EUR 76,000.
