Taiwo Awoniyi makes EPL debut in Nottingham Forest opening day loss to Newcastle


Taiwo Awoniyi came on as a substitute for his EPL debut in Nottingham Forest 2-0 opening day loss to Newcastle at St James park .


Second half goals by Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson gave Newcastle a well deserved win over Nottingham Forest who could not produce a single shot on goal .


Nottingham Forest boss Steve Copper brought on Taiwo Awoniyi in the 63rd minute , as Forest chased for a response to Fabian Schar’s opener in the 58th minute .

Awoniyi had a quiet 27minute debut and was not presented with any opportunity to test Nick Pope in goal for the Magpies at St James Park on Saturday afternoon .


It was Newcastle United who added a second through Callum Wilson in the 78th minute . The scoreline a true reflection of Newcastle’s domineering performance .


Newcastle topped the possession stat 62-38 plus a total of 23 goal attempts eclipsing the 5 off target attempts by Nottingham Forest in their first English Premier League game in over two decades .


Awoniyi and Nottingham Forest will face West Ham on August 13, 2022 for their first home game of the English Premier League season .
