Almeria manager Rubi has dreams of keeping Nigerian forward Sadiq Umar at the club despite reported transfer interest from Villarreal and two other La Liga clubs.
Umar scored 18 goals and assisted nine others to help Almeria secure promotion to the Spanish La Liga . The Nigerian forward , Rubi believes could still leave for economic reasons .
“Our dream as a staff would be for Sadiq to continue with the team in the First Division because I think his performance could be better than in the Second Division, simply because of a space issue, with the possibility of running, he will do a lot of damage,” Rubi told Diario de Almeria.
“I think he will be there and if in the end he is not, it is because the club understands that the economic part is good enough to allocate that money to bring a footballer in that position and one or another situation, or help leave a fantastic field ” The Spanish manager stated.
Sadiq Umar missed some part of last season away on international duty with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the AFCON . The forward still ended the campaign as the Clubs top scorer and player of the season .
Links to Villarreal have gone cold since transfer guru Fabrizio Romano last made mention on 30th June a development that will excite his manager .
Rubi is happy to keep the Nigerian as they continue preparations for a difficult opening day fixture vs La Liga and UEFA Champions League title holders Real Madrid on Sunday 14 , August 2022.
