A threat of violence circulated on social media Tuesday night has prompted Adams City High School to cancel classes Wednesday, Adams County School District 14 Superintendent Dr. Karla Loría said in an email to parents.
This closure allows for the Commerce City Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the district’s administrative team to conduct a full investigation of the incident.
This comes only a couple days after a police investigation locked down the school and several other Colorado schools were hit with “swatting” hoaxes.
An Adams City high school student, Emmanuel Melgar, was also reported missing and has not been seen since around the time of Monday’s lockdown.
Loría said the Adams City High School threat is isolated and no other schools have received threats.
“Please take this opportunity to speak with your student about the dangers of making a threat to use a weapon or bringing a weapon of any kind to school,” Loría said in the email. “All weapons are strictly prohibited on school property by any person with the exception of law enforcement professionals. The district will work with all local and federal agencies to prosecute any and all individuals who make a threat to the maximum extent of the law. We have a no tolerance policy for any behavior that jeopardizes the safety of our students and staff.”
The district will have additional personnel and police presence throughout to ensure the safety of students and staff.
