Snow and the coldest weather of the season is on the way for northeastern Colorado including the metro area and the Interstate 25 corridor.
A sunny day in Denver on Wednesday, with a high temperature near 41 degrees, will give way to a cold and snowy day on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow, under mostly cloudy skies, is likely on Thursday afternoon in the city and the high temperature will top out near 29 degrees, the weather service said. The chance of snow will increase as the day goes on, with a 60% chance on Thursday evening rising to a 90% chance overnight.
“Slick and hazardous travel” conditions will develop along the front range mountains and the Interstate 25 corridor as “a few inches of snow will be possible,” the weather service said. Lighter amounts of snow are forecast for the Eastern Plains.
High temperatures in the metro area on Thursday will top out in the 20s, with widespread readings in the teens possible throughout much of the day, according to the weather service forecast. Thursday overnight low temps will be in the single digits in the metro area, with below zero lows in widespread mountain areas. The overnight low temp in Denver on Thursday will be about 9 degrees.
Skies over the metro area on Friday will be mostly sunny, according to the forecast, but the cold weather will stick as the high temperature hits near 26 degrees, the weather service said. The overnight low temperature on Friday will be near 11 degrees under mostly clear skies.
A gradual warming trend in the metro area kicks in on Saturday, with sunny skies and a high temperature of about 41 degrees. Daytime high temperatures in Denver into early next will be in the mid to upper 40s under sunny to mostly sunny skies. Overnight low temperatures will top out in the teens to mid 20s, under mostly clear skies.
