Samuel Eto’o has insisted Cameroon will reach the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar despite Friday’s International friendly loss to Uzbekistan .
Cameroon suffered a 2-0 loss to Uzbekistan on Friday but FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o believes the African country will remain focused on the objective .
“We really wanted to see the reaction of the team, and for the first time—I hoped for Cameroon to lose,” Eto’o told CRTV
” Our objective is still the same; to depart Qatar on the evening of December 18, the date of the World Cup final. We won’t lose sight of our objective,” He said .
Cameroon will play against Switzerland , Serbia and Brazil in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup , how long they will stay depends on their ability to halt a negative record from previous finals
Cameroon have a poor record of six defeats from six games in the last two world cup appearances making Eto’o’s targeg in Qatar a tall mission for the Rigobert Song tutored Lions .
An impressive showing at the 2021 AFCON on home soil was halted by a shootout loss to Egypt in the semi-final and ultimately led to the appointment of Samuel Eto’o’s former teammate Rigobert Song .
Song immediately led Cameroon past Algeria in the World Cup qualification playoffs to book a spot in Qatar where football federation president aims for the team to stay until the final day .
That will be historic as no African country has ever reached the final of the World Cup, the farthest a Quarter final place .
Just like Samuel Eto’o , Ghanian President Nana-Addo is targeting not just the final but an historic title win for the Black Stars in Qatar .
Nana-Addo had at an event to receive the World Cup trophy on tour declared he is optimistic Ghana will make Africa proud by winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup .
Cameroon and Ghana will be joined by Morroco , Senegal and Tunisia as Africa’s representatives to the 2022 FIFA World Cup which kicksoff in Qatar on November 18, 2022 .
