Rocky Mountain National Park will again use a timed entry permit reservation system starting in May.
The upcoming reservation permit system pilot, similar to one used this year, will run from May 26 to Oct. 22, according to a RMNP news release.
“Previous use of the reservation system has eased congestion impacts and improved the visitor experience in the park,” officials said.
One permit, for the Bear Lake Road Corridor, will be in use from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., the release said. A second permit will be for the “rest of the park,” excluding the Bear Lake Road corridor. The second reservation period will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Permits allow visitors to enter the park within a two-hour window, with no set time for departure. There will be a $2 recreation.gov processing fee associated with the reservation. Reservations can be made online starting May 1 at www.recreation.gov. The first round of reservations will cover May 6 through June 30, with other reservation time periods to follow.
RMNP is among the busiest national parks with over 4.6 million visitors in 2019, according to the release. In 2021, under a pilot timed entry system, RMNP’s visitation was 4.4 million.
