After saving his kids from a swimming accident in Florida, a former NFL player is in the ICU.

Peyton Hillis is in the hospital after receiving care for his lung and kidneys, according to TMZ.

Hillis was in Pensacola when he saved his kids from drowning. Doctors said he remains unconscious, but his health is improving.

Hillis spent eight years in the NFL playing for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants.

He also graced the cover of “Madden 12″ after a breakout year in 2010, when he ran for nearly 1,200 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
