A pedestrian and two dogs were killed in Aurora early Friday after being struck by a vehicle that careened onto the sidewalk in what police said was a hit-and-run.

Calls to 911 around 2:30 a.m. Friday reported a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of South Reservoir Road and East Mansfield Avenue, a news release from the Aurora Police Department said.

Aurora Fire Rescue and Aurora police responded, finding a man and two dogs lying in the grass. A crashed vehicle was also located in the center of South Reservoir Road after the driver fled on foot, police said.

Police say both the man and the dogs died.

According to the news release, a Toyota Sequoia was traveling southbound on South Reservoir Road when it left the road, striking the pedestrian and dogs on the sidewalk.

The vehicle also damaged a bus stop, several signs and an electrical box, police said.
