Sports gambling is coming to Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The Orioles will partner with SuperBook Sports, which has operated in Nevada since 1986, to launch a “retail sport lounge,” the baseball club said Wednesday in a news release.

In its announcement, the team called the facility a “sportsbook,” but spokeswoman Katie Krause said in an email that she wanted to clarify that description, saying: “This will be a themed sports lounge; however it is not a place where sports betting will take place. Once approved by the state, betting will take place only in a mobile format.”

Krause did not immediately respond to voicemail and an email seeking more information about the details of the operation.

According to the team’s release, the sports lounge will offer “comfortable seating for fans to enjoy the game and place live sports bets. It will feature the amenities and viewing experience of a live sportsbook with the ability to place bets from the palm of your hand.”

T.J. Brightman, the team’s senior vice president and chief revenue officer, said in the release, “The addition of a SuperBook sportsbook only reinforces our iconic ballpark’s standing as one of the premier entertainment destinations in the region.”

The team said that, subject to licensing and approvals from the Maryland Lottery & Gaming Control Commission, the lounge would open in 2023.

Major League Baseball did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Maryland voters approved legalized sports gambling in 2020 and last year, casinos in Maryland, including Baltimore’s Horseshoe Casino, launched in-person sports betting.

At Camden Yards, SuperBook advertising will be “prevalent throughout the ballpark, including on the center field scoreboard and home plate signage,” according to the team’s statement. When asked for specifics about the center field advertising and where in the stadium the lounge would be located, as well as when exactly it will open, Krause wrote in an email that further details would be “announced at a later date.”

SuperBook Sports is home to what it calls “the World’s Largest Sportsbook,” the SuperBook Westgate Las Vegas, as well as a mobile app in Colorado and operations in Arizona, New Jersey and Tennessee. The company is planning expansions into in Iowa, Ohio and Indiana, it said.

“SuperBook Sports has become the go-to source for leading sports media outlets, other bookmakers and a favorite place to wager for both novice and knowledgeable bettors alike,” according to the description provided by the Orioles.
