Coach Bala Nkiyu tutored Nigeria U-17 girls were held to a 1-1 and 2-2 draw over two legs by Cameroon who qualified for Uruguay 2018 on the away goal rule.
NIGERIA’S LAST APPEARANCE AT THE FIFA U-17 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP ?
Nigeria’s Flamingos were knocked out of the tournament in the Group stage.
The Nigerian ladies fell 0-1 to Brazil in their first group game on 1st October 2016. The Flamingos secured their only point in a 0-0 draw vs England in the second game.
A sorry run ended with the Flamingos lose 3-0 to eventual chanpions North Korea in the first group game on October 8, 2016.
Coach Bala Nkiyu tutored ladies may have failed to qualify for the Knockout rounds or even get a single goal at the tournament but the tournament was not entirely a dissapointment.
The likes of current Super Falcon Stars Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ucheibe and Rashedat Ajibade were discovered at the tournament.
THE RETURN, SIX YEARS AFTER
The Flamingos will return to the competition six years after it’s last appearance when they face Germany on Tuesday October 11, 2022 at the Nehru Stadium in Goa, India.
Coach Bankole Olowookere and his girls will take on New Zealand on 14th October (4.30 pm) also at the Nehru Stadium in Goa, before facing Chile at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on 17th October (4.30 pm).
