On Jan. 24, deputies were trying to arrest the man at 2842 North Ave., which is the address of a fast food restaurant, when the shooting happened about 7:50 p.m., the Grand Junction Police Department said in a news release.
The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Devrin Sandell, who has been with the sheriff’s office for eight years, was the deputy who shot the man. Sandell is assigned to the major offender task force.
Sandell will be on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation that will take place independently of the review by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
