Kellogg’s corn flakes vs Kellogg’s Chocos – Which is healthier?


Kellogg’s is a massive brand in India and is famous for its cereals and snacks. They dominate the cereal industry in India with their oats, upma, muesli and corn flakes. But they rose to prominence with their two main products, Kellogg’s corn flakes (generally consumed as a breakfast option by adults) and Kellogg’s Chocos (generally consumed as a breakfast option for kids).

So today in this article, we will be comparing Kellogg’s corn flakes with Kellogg’s Chocos and will determine which is a better breakfast option for both children and adults. Let’s begin.

Pricing and serving

The first parameter that comes up to our mind while comparing a product is its pricing. Both mini packs of Kellogg’s corn flakes and Kellogg’s Chocos cost you around Rs 20. The difference lies in the serving size. The serving size of the 20Rs Kellogg’s corn flakes pack is 70g (more than 2 serves) whereas the serving size of 20Rs Kellogg’s Chocos pack is 56g ( 1 and a half serving). When it comes to pricing, Kellogg’s corn flakes is the clear winner. 

Nutritional claims

Nutritional claims generally mean what the company is trying to claim about the product on its packaging. 

Kellogg’s corn flakes claim the presence of the power of 5 (Energy, Iron, Protein, Calcium, and Vitamins). But when you analyze the nutritional information mentioned on the back of the packaging, you will find that calcium is entirely missing. If you are consuming these corn flakes with milk, then only you will be to get the calcium. So this statement is somewhat manipulative and misleading. On the other hand, Kellogg’s chocos claim that the amount of protein and fiber present in it is equal to 1 roti. But when I calculated the protein and fiber content of 1 roti, it was not even half the actual value. So this is also a piece of false information provided by the company. Main ingredient

The main ingredient of Kellogg’s corn flakes is corn. 1 mini pack of Kellogg’s corn flakes contains about 87% corn grits which is actually great. The amount of the main ingredient present in the product determines the quality of the product. 

On the other hand, Kellogg’s chocos contain about 62.6% wheat solids and 31.3% atta. In this case, the amount of the main ingredient present in these chocos is quite low compared to Kellogg’s corn flakes. 

Sugar content

The amount of sugar content in Kellogg’s corn flakes is very low. Per 30g serving of Kellogg’s corn flakes contain about 2.5g of sugar (half tablespoon sugar). 

But when it comes to Kellogg’s chocos, the sugar content is actually high. 1 serving of Kellogg’s chocos contains about 9g of sugar. And if you are adding further milk to it, the sugar content rises to almost 20g. It is always recommended to avoid foods that are extensively high in sugar. 

So in this case, Kellogg’s corn flakes is the clear winner here. 

Fiber content

Although the amount of fiber present in Kellogg’s chocos is not at all equal to the amount of fiber present in roti. But when compared to Kellogg’s corn flakes, it has 2x amount of fiber. 


Both Kellogg’s corn flakes and Kellogg’s Chocos have almost the same amount of protein content. 1 serving of Kellogg’s corn flakes provides you with 2g of protein whereas Kellogg’s chocos contain about 2.7g of protein. The difference is .7g, which is negligible. 


Calcium is highly required for your child’s overall better bone health and development. 1 serving of Kellogg’s chocos contains about 160mg of calcium (fulfills 26% of the daily calcium requirement) and if you are providing this with milk to your child, the calcium content further goes up. But in the case of Kellogg’s corn flakes, there is no calcium present in it. It needs to be served with milk to get the calcium content. 

Vitamin C 

Vitamin C is highly required by your body. When compared between Kellogg’s corn flakes and Kellogg’s Chocos, Kellogg’s cornflakes contain twice the amount of Vitamin C present in Kellogg’s chocos. 

Harmful colors and preservatives

Kellogg’s cornflakes is 100% free from any harmful colors and preservatives. But on the other hand, Kellogg’s chocos mentions the presence of color 150d. It is a water-soluble caramel brown food color that is carcinogenic in nature if over-consumed. Although Kellogg’s chocos use the food color in permissible amounts, but I personally feel that it was not necessary. 

Who should consume?

Both of the packages do not mention which one is for children and which one is for adults. But looking at the characteristics and features of both the products it can be stated that Kellogg’s choices is for children and Kellogg’s corn flakes is for adults. But Kellogg’s chocos is never recommended for children who are under 4 years as it contains a potentially harmful food color. 


The taste is a matter of personal preference here. But yes, having said so, children love the taste of Kellogg’s chocos as it is crispy and chocolaty in taste.

Both Kellogg’s chocos and Kellogg’s corn flakes have very similar nutritional values. But if asked about my opinion, I would always choose Kellogg’s corn flakes over Kellogg’s chocos as it has no refined wheat flour, no harmful preservatives and is 100% natural. On the other hand, Kellogg’s chocos has refined wheat flour, contains color 150d and has sugar content. But this doesn’t mean that you should never give Kellogg’s chocos to your child. If your child is above 5 years old, you can definitely give it to him/her twice a week. In the case of Kellogg’s corn flakes, people with diabetes should avoid it as it contains simple sugar which raises your blood sugar levels almost immediately.
