The Denver Pioneers on Thursday announced that senior defenseman Justin Lee will be the captain of the 2022-23 men’s ice hockey team.
Carter Mazur, Kyle Mayhew and McKade Webster were named alternate captains.
“It means a lot to me, and I’m very honored to be named captain of this program,” Lee said in a news release. “There is a lot of tradition here at Denver, and I am very excited to wear the letter. I’ve had a lot of great leaders in the past here at Denver and have learned a lot of things along the way. I just try to be the hardest working guy every day.”
Lee, who was an alternate captain on last season’s NCAA championship squad, tallied career highs in assists (13) and points (16) as a junior. He is the 93rd captain in Pioneers history.
“All four have been through different experiences in their time at DU that makes them uniquely qualified to have this responsibility,” head coach David Carle said in a news release. “Their team-first attitude will allow them to hold themselves and their teammates to the high standards of Pioneer hockey.”
DU will open its regular season at the Ice Breaker Tournament on Oct. 7-8.
