An Aurora man who gave fentanyl to a 16-year-old girl during a party at his apartment, where she overdosed and died, is sentenced to 64 years to life in prison.
Jorge Alexander Che-Quiab was sentenced Thursday in Arapahoe County District Court, according to the district attorney’s office.
Che-Quiab was sentenced from 12 years to life for sexual assault of a child, the DA’s office said. He was sentenced to 12 years for manslaughter; and on two counts of substance distribution to a minor — 20 years on each drug count. The terms will be served consecutively.
He was also sentenced for possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and for sex assault of a victim under 15. These sentencing terms run concurrent with the consecutive terms.
In May, an Arapahoe County jury found Che-Quiab guilty of manslaughter — rather than the original charge of first-degree murder — following a six-day trial.
On Aug. 7, 2020, Aurora police responded to Che-Quiab’s home on a report of an overdose, according to an earlier news release. Investigators determined that Che-Quiab had supplied alcohol, marijuana and fentanyl to a group of underage girls at his residence.
“Che-Quiab admitted to police that one of the girls appeared to be suffering from symptoms of overdose, but decided to go to sleep rather than seek medical attention on her behalf,” the release said.
People at the gathering awoke the next morning and found the victim, who was not breathing, and called 911 for help. Alexis Krzystek died at the scene. Che-Quiab flushed drugs down a toilet before police and paramedics arrived.
He was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl whom he plied with alcohol.
