The new Mercedes E-Class (W214) will have a completely new design. So far spy photos have hidden a lot of the new design but the website www.kolesa.ru shows a rendering that looks quite realistic.

As with the S-Class and C-Class, the new E-Class has a slimmer silhouette with slimmer headlamps framing a smaller radiator grille and equally slim, two-piece taillamps that also extend onto the boot lid.

The wheelbase will increase to more clearly differentiate it from the C-Class and colleagues at auto motor und sport magazine estimate a wheelbase of 2.96 metres. The front and rear track will also increase slightly. Optional air suspension and integral steering will be offered.

The Mercedes E-Class will have only 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines under the bonnet as the V8 engine will disappear like in the C-Class. The M254 petrol and OM654 diesel engines will feature mild hybrid with 48V network and an integrated starter generator. The petrol engines will develop up to 272 HP and 400 Nm and the diesel up to 265 HP and 550 Nm. More power will be delivered by the M256 in-line 6-cylinder petrol and OM 656 in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines which will develop up to 435 HP and 330 HP respectively.

AMG fans must be satisfied with the M139 4-cylinder engine which will be integrated into a PHEV system and will develop over 600 HP in the AMG E 63 but there will also be a basic AMG version, AMG E 53.

There will be no shortage of PHEV versions which will benefit from the high capacity battery from the C-Class and S-Class which will give a range of up to 100 km.The larger battery will be placed under the boot floor and under the rear bench after Mercedes reengineered the rear axle.

The E-Class range will consist of the limousine and the T-Model station wagon but an E-Class cabriolet and coupe will no longer exist. Their place will be taken by the Mercedes CLE Coupe and Cabrio which will replace both the C-Class/E-Class coupe and cabriolet.
