Two leg bones from a longneck sauropod dinosaur were recently discovered in the Royal Gorge region and will be revealed to the public next weekend.

A person hiking a few months ago in the region, long famous for the discovery of prehistoric remains, stumbled upon a large tibia and fibula and reported them to the Bureau of Land Management.

An excavation team in coordination with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, BLM and the Royal Gorge Museum & History Center was then sent to the area to carefully extract the fossils.

They were then encased in a plaster jacket, which will be opened and revealed on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. for the public to view the preparation and preservation process.
