Flamingos to play Germany for bronze at the #U17WWC

Nigeria Women’s U-17 team, Flamingos will now play Germany’s U-17 team in the third-place match at the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in India.

The Flamingos’ hopes of playing in the final were shattered by Columbia after losing 6-5 in the penalty shootout in India on Wednesday.

Flamingos gave their all but weren’t enough as they bowed out in the first semis, and the second semifinal between Spain and Germany ended in favour of the defending champions.

Spain U-17 Women’s team led by Nigerian-born Vicky Lopez booked a place in the successive final after beating Germany U-17 with a late goal.

Lucia Corrales scored the winning goal for Spain U-17 as they beat Germany in the second semifinal.

Nigeria and Germany will now face again in a repeat of what happened in the first group game between the teams.

Germany beat Nigeria 2-1 in the first group game after the Flamingos had taken the lead in the first half.

The third-place match between Nigeria and Germany and the final match between Columbia and Spain will be played on Sunday.

Both games will be played at DY Patil Sports Stadium , Nigeria v Germany (12 pm), Columbia v Spain (3:30pm).
