Everton open contract talks with untouchable Alex Iwobi

Everton have begun talks with Alex Iwobi over contract renewal, in a bid to ward off attention from top clubs on their important player, reports SportsRation.

After his initial struggle, Alex Iwobi has become one of the fans’ favourites, and the first name on the team sheet for coach Frank Lampard.

It was not always this way for Alex Iwobi who joined Everton from Arsenal in 2024, as he was employed in different positions under previous Everton managers, and Frank Lampard before finding a suitable role.

Alex Iwobi had played as winger, wingback, and behind the striker, until Frank Lampard tried him in the defensive midfield at the start of the season, and now in the central midfield role after the arrival of Idrissa Gueye.

In his new role, Alex Iwobi has been world-class, close to perfection dropping masterclass every time he puts on the Everton blue jersey.

He has played in all of Everton’s eight games this season (seven in the league and one in the Cup game). To further buttress his new untouchable status, he played every minute of those games.

Alex Iwobi has won the man of the match in two of those eight games, with his latest being for his role in Everton’s 1-0 win against West Ham on Sunday.

Hence, Frank Lampard, and Everton have decided to start talks with the Nigerian who has two years left on his contract.

Alex Iwobi would be glad to continue his development under Frank Lampard, whom he has credited for his remarkable improvement.

“I didn’t get off to a great start [at Everton],” said Iwobi on Sunday after helping the club to their first league win of the season.

“I always have the mindset to prove people wrong.

“The manager has given me faith to do so, and he allows me to express myself as I do in training, and I have been able to do that in matches to repay the faith.

“Ever since I came through as an [Arsenal] academy player I have always liked to move the ball forward on a half turn.

“Now I’m taking the full turn and trying to get up the pitch.”

Alex Iwobi is yet to find the back of the net this season, but he has assisted three goals, two in the Premier League and one in a Cup game.
