On banner night, the DU Pioneers went out with a bang.

A few hours after raising the program’s ninth NCAA title banner to the rafters inside Magness Arena, the fourth-ranked Pioneers got an overtime goal from sophomore forward Jack Devine to beat No. 11 Providence 3-2 on Saturday night.

Rieger Lorenz and Sean Behrens were credited with assists on Devin’s game-winner, which completed a two-game sweep of the previously unbeaten Friars (3-2-0) following DU’s 4-1 win on Friday night.

Carter Mazur and Massimo Rizzo netted back-to-back goals in the second period to give the Pios (4-2-0) a 2-1 lead. The first was a power play tally assisted by Casey Dornbach and Rizzo, while the second came at even strength with Mazur and Behrens assisting with less than a minute to go in the period.

A power play goal from Taige Harding forced the extra frame, but that was the last shot that would get by DU goaltender Magnus Chrona, who turned away 29 shots on the night.

DU next travels to Miami (Ohio) for a two-game set next Friday and Saturday, then returns home to host St. Cloud State on Nov. 4-5.
