Canadian rap artiste Drake was a direct beneficiary after Israel Adesanya overcame Jared Cannonier in their UFC 276 Middleweight bout on Sunday.
Prior to the fight, Drake face-timed Adesanya and drummed up support for the Nigerian UFC star. The rapper informed Adesanya that he had placed a bet of $1 million on him defeating Cannonier in their fight.
“I had to put a light mill on my brother. Return on investment is a lot.” Drake said to the UFC Middleweight champion. The musician did not reveal how much he stood to gain if Adesanya won the fight, but it is clearly a lot of money.
Adesanya defeated Cannonier following a unanimous decision after the fight went the distance. The self-proclaimed “Last Stylebender” is now 23-1 since making his UFC debut. He was greatly supported by his fellow African UFC stars, with Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou both appearing at the side of the Octagon.
