The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office identified two people who were killed late Tuesday night in a shooting in an RTD parking garage in Lone Tree.

David Strain, 31, and Clarissa Daws, 29, both from Pueblo, died in the shootout, the sheriff’s office reported in a Facebook post.

The sheriff’s office released a one-minute, 11-second video from deputies’ body cameras that shows officers yelling at the occupants of a vehicle to roll down their windows before the gunfight erupts. The video appears to be edited clips from multiple body cameras but does not show the incident in its entirety.

The gunfight lasted nearly 9 minutes, the Facebook post says.

“It is quite obvious that the deputies gave the suspects every opportunity to follow commands, put their hands up, and get out of the car, to which instead they chose to start firing on my deputies,” Spurlock is quoted as saying on Facebook.

The shootout happened at 11:36 p.m. Tuesday after deputies who were patrolling RTD’s Lincoln Station parking lot saw a suspicious black Kia with no license plates and the locks punched out, Spurlock said in a Wednesday news conference.

The video shows a black sedan blocked into a parking space by police vehicles and deputies surrounding it with their guns out. After ignoring deputies’ commands to roll down the car’s windows, the driver started the engine and began moving the Kia back and forth to escape the blockade, the video shows.
