Eighty black cows were reported stolen in Baca County, and a reward is being offered for anyone who provides a tip that leads to their recovery.
The Colorado Cattlemen’s Association reported the missing cattle on Thursday, and Colorado’s Brand Commissioner Chris Whitney has notified neighboring states about the theft, according to a cattlemen’s association news release.
The cows are bred heifers, and their value is more than $2,000 each, according to prices for bred heifers on various cattle sale websites. Their combined value would exceed $160,000.
The cows will have blue Y-Tex tags in their ears, and they will have one of two brands on their bodies — S JM or Lazy TC with a quarter circle.
A $2,500 reward is being offered by Colorado’s Operation Livestock Thief program. Tips should be reported to the Baca County Sheriff’s office at (719) 523-6677.
