A Denver man faces a criminal charge of negligence causing serious injury for allegedly failing to provide for an intellectually and developmentally disabled man who was in his host home care.
Michael Hill, 40, faces the felony charge in connection to an investigation that started in December 2019, according to a district attorney’s office news release.
The criminal investigation unfolded when Colorado Adult Protective Services contacted Denver police about concerns for the victim, the release said. A detective visited the home on a “welfare check,” and “found the victim naked and covered in feces.”
The victim was taken to a local hospital where staff found him to be severely malnourished and dehydrated, the release said. Investigators suspect that he was not properly administered prescribed medications while in Hill’s care.
In fall 2021, an investigator with the DA’s Elder and At-Risk Unit was assigned the case. The victim is in a new host home and has reportedly recovered from the alleged negligence, according to the release.
