Denver wide receiver Jerry Jeudy is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Kansas City due to an ankle injury, but interim head coach Jerry Rosburg expressed little doubt about the third-year player in more than one area on Friday.
“I fully expect Jerry Jeudy to play because I know how important football is to him,” Rosburg said after practice, though he acknowledged the team’s medical staff will ultimately make the call on whether the receiver is cleared. “He really loves this game, I’ve learned that from him. I’m hopeful he can go and go full, but that’s why they call it questionable, I guess. We’ll see.”
Rosburg called Jerry Jeudy “my hero today,” for another reason, though.
“Jerry Jeudy’s been so impressive to me and, probably, of all the plays he’s made, I thought he made a great play yesterday off the field. Tremendous play,” Rosburg said.
He was referring to Jeudy defending quarterback Russell Wilson on social media and to reporters on Thursday.
“I have to mind my vocabulary here, but there’s a lot of crap out there,” Rosburg said of the criticism toward Wilson. “At any point in time, we’ve all been criticized before, but at some point in time it’s really important that those that know you best stand up for you. Sometimes that’s a difficult thing to do because you get yourself messy in the process, but you saw his teammate and friend and comrade laid low and he dug in.”
Apprised that several other players expressed similar support, Rosburg cut off a question and said, “Damn right they did.”
Dulcich to IR: The Broncos placed rookie tight end Greg Dulcich on injured reserve Friday, ending his season.
Dulcich did not practice all week after dropping out late against the Rams last Sunday with a hamstring issue. He pulled up after running a deep route in the fourth quarter. He also missed much of the offseason training program and the first five weeks of the season with hamstring issues.
He finished his first season with 33 catches, 411 yards and two touchdowns.
Gregory ruled out: Denver also ruled out outside linebacker Randy Gregory and offensive lineman Calvin Anderson for Sunday’s game at Kansas City.
Gregory is eligible to play after a one-game suspension was reduced to a $50,000 fine this week, but he has not practiced this week due to soreness in his knee. Gregory missed 10 weeks after a Week 4 injury led to surgery and he’s played a combined 34 snaps the past two weeks.
Four players are listed as questionable: In addition Jeudy, receiver Kendall Hinton is questionable, as are outside linebacker Baron Browning and defensive lineman D.J. Jones. Hinton has practiced in a limited capacity all week after a hamstring issue cost him two games. Browning (back) and Jones (knee) didn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday but were limited Friday.
Hamler wins team award: Wide receiver KJ Hamler on Friday was named the Broncos’ 2022 Ed Block Courage Award recipient.
Hamler, the third-year player, spent the entirety of the offseason rehabilitating from knee and hip injuries he suffered in late September 2021. He missed much of training camp, but returned to action for the Broncos’ season opener and became a deep-ball threat after being limited early in the season. Hamler, though, finished with just seven catches for 145 yards (23.6 per reception) over seven games. Then, in early November, he suffered the first of multiple hamstring issues that landed him back on injured reserve and cost him the final nine games of the season.
