The primetime Broncos are no longer, at least for 2022.
Denver’s Dec. 11 home game against the Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) has been flexed out of the Sunday Night Football slot and instead will kick off at 2:05 p.m. on CBS, the NFL announced Tuesday evening.
The decision to move a divisional game featuring two of the most popular teams in the league and quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson out of primetime is indicative of the 3-8 Broncos’ 2022 struggle. Denver played four primetime games earlier in the season — Monday night at Seattle in Week 1, Sunday night against San Francisco in Week 3, Thursday night against Indianapolis in Week 5 and Monday night at the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7 — and lost three times, failing to score more than 16 points in any of them.
They have lost seven of eight overall and are last in the NFL in scoring offense.
In place of the AFC West matchup, NBC will air 8-3 Miami’s trip to the Chargers (6-5) on Sunday Night Football instead.
Denver does not have another primetime game on the books for 2022.
