The Avalanche traveled to Tennessee for Thanksgiving dinner, and that is all.
Colorado’s game against the Predators, scheduled for noon MT Friday, has been postponed due to a water main break at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, the NHL announced Friday morning.
No makeup date has been determined yet, according to a league statement.
The Avs (11-6-1) skated at their practice facility in Centennial, Colorado, then flew to Nashville on Thursday afternoon. They were set to return home after the game to host the Dallas Stars on Saturday in a back-to-back.
The water main break “significantly impacted the event level of the arena,” according to the league statement. The status of Nashville’s Saturday home game against Columbus is up in the air.
Colorado defeated Nashville 5-3 at home the first time the division foes met this season. Their next scheduled game is Dec. 17 at Ball Arena. Colorado will travel to Nashville again for a scheduled game Dec. 23.
“We’ve got (Thanksgiving) dinner planned at the hotel for the staff, and then the players have it as well,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Thursday before the team departed. Bednar is Canadian, but he lives in South Carolina in the offseason and does celebrate American Thanksgiving.
“I fry my turkeys down south, but I don’t have a fryer here,” he said. Whether or not his 2022 Thanksgiving spent in the South included a fried turkey remains unclear.
Evan Rodrigues injury update
Avalanche forward Evan Rodrigues (lower body) did not make the brief trip to Nashville. He saw a doctor Thursday. Bednar does not know the timeline for Rodrigues’ injury yet, but the team is optimistic that the injury might not be as severe as it initially seemed.
“Lower body tweak,” Bednar said. “We’re hoping for the best. … We’re waiting on news from the doc, but he’s feeling OK.”
Rodrigues collapsed to the ice Wednesday night after his skate clipped against the skate of Vancouver’s J.T. Miller. The second-line center gingerly skated off then immediately went to the locker room. He did not return to the bench.
Rodrigues signed with Colorado on a one-year deal this offseason, leaving Pittsburgh in free agency.
