Deputies in Adams County responded to a domestic violence call Saturday night and fatally shot a suspect who was holding a knife to a victim’s throat, the sheriff’s office said.

The police shooting happened at about 8:25 p.m. Saturday at an apartment in the 7000 block of Pecos Street, said Sgt. Adam Sherman, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

When deputies arrived at the apartment, they knocked on the door and a man, holding a knife, opened the door, and then quickly slammed it shut, Sherman said. The two deputies heard a woman screaming from inside the residence and they entered the apartment.
