At least one school district has closed schools ahead of the severe cold and snow that is expected to hit Colorado in the coming days.

27J Schools, based in Brighton, will close Thursday and Friday. Classes in the district will resume after winter break on Jan. 10.

“Weather forecasters are predicting extremely cold temperatures, which are a safety concern impacting students who would be waiting in the dangerously cold weather at their school bus stops,” the district said in a statement. “It also prompts concerns regarding the continued safe operation of school buildings.”
